چکیده

The need for air-to-ground missiles with Autonomous Target Acquisition (ATA) seekers is in large part driven by the failure of pilot-guided bombs in cloudy conditions (such as demonstrated in Kosovo). Passive-millimeter wave (PMMW) sensors have the ability to see through clouds; in fact, they tend to show metallic objects (such as mobile ground targets) in high contrast regardless of weather conditions. However, their resolution is very low when compared with other popular ATA sensors such as laser-radar (LADAR). We present an ATA algorithm suite that combines the superior target detection potential of PMMW with the high-quality segmentation and recognition abilities of LADAR. Preliminary detection and segmentation results are presented for a set of image-pairs of military vehicles that were collected for this project using an 89GHz, 18” aperture PMMW sensor and a 1.06μ very-high-resolution LADAR.

Automatic target recognition in laser radar imagery

This paper presents an Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) system for laser radar (LADAR) imagery, designed to classify objects at multiple levels of discrimination (target detection, classification, and recognition) from single LADAR images. Segmentation is performed in both the range and non-range LADAR channels and results combined to increase object detection rate or decrease false positive ...

Pose Independent Target Recognition System Using Pulsed Ladar Imagery

Although a number of object recognition techniques have been developed to process LADAR scanned terrain scenes, these techniques have had limited success in target discrimination in part due to low-resolution data and limits in available computation power. We present a pose-independent Automatic Target Detection and Recognition System that uses data from an airborne 3D imaging Ladar sensor. The...

Automatic registration and visualization of occluded targets using ladar data

High-resolution 3D imaging ladar systems can penetrate foliage and camouflage to sample fragments of concealed surfaces of interest. Samples collected while the ladar moves can be integrated into a coherent object shape, provided that sensor poses are known. We detail a system for automatic data-driven registration of ladar frames, consisting of a coarse search stage, a pairwise fine registrati...

Visualization and Verification of Automatic Target Recognition Results Using Combined Range and Optical Imager

The Rangeview software system presented here addresses two significant issues in the development and deploymentof anAutomaticTarget Recognizer: visualization of progress of the recognizer in finding a target, and verification by an operator of the correctness of the match. The system combines range imagery from a LADAR device with optical imagery from a color CCD camera and/or FLIR sensor to di...

The complementary nature of LADAR, FLIR and color data for ATR is being exploited by new algorithms in a three stage recognition system. The stages are initial detection, target class and pose hypothesis generation, and precise model to multisensor coregistra-tion matching. Coregistration globally aligns 3D target models with range, IR and color imagery while simultaneously reening registration...
